Protected Geographical Indication IGP Vi de la Terra de Mallorca.
TYPE OF WINE
60% Merlot: This variety provides fineness and softness to the coupage, as well as it helps with the color preservation during the aging process. On the nose, it reminds of red berries and sweet aromas (honey or cinnamon).
30 % Cabernet Sauvignon: This variety endures well the ageing because of its high contents in tannins and acidity. It produces wines with a medium to high alcohol content. In the case of Ca’n Feliu we rely on this to achieve wines with a high longevity, as well as with body and structure. This variety provides black fruits and smoky aromas and some spicy essences.
10% Syrah: This variety adds longevity and freshness to the wines, by providing them with long-term aging. As for the preparation, this variety rounds off the wines, giving them spicy and earthy touches.
YEAR: 2014. Temperatures of that year were somewhat higher than those of other years. It was a rather dry year, which could have affected the quality of the grape, but in the case of Ca’n Feliu drip irrigation is used, so a balanced crop was obtained, resulting in wines with good body and acidity, predictly becoming long lasting wine
This Majorcan wine is produced only with hand-selected grapes from vineyards located in Porreres (Mallorca – Balearic Islands). Grapes are harvested in 15-20-kg boxes and immediately taken to the cellar, where they are stored in a cold chamber under 5º C for 24-48 hours in order to prevent early fermentation. Traditional winemaking methods without adding yeast or bacteria (according to DEMETER INTERNACIONAL standards). Fermentation and ageing at controlled temperature.
12-15 months in a new French oak barrel. At least 15 months in a bottle.
Visual: Purplish-red with some violet touch in the thin layer. High-medium intensity.
Nose: Intense aromas attributable to red berries, black fruits and some earthy and spicy notes. Subtle nuances of violet are also appreciated. Subsequently, a slightly smoky and roasted touch provided by its barrel ageing is appreciated.
Palate: On the palate, the perfect balance of the wine is confirmed given the concentrated aromas of ripe black fruits and spices supported by an integrated structure of tannins and a balanced acidity. The perfect integration of the barrique in the controlled aging is confirmed.
Serving temperature: 15 – 17 degrees approximately.
Pairing and harmony: Red meats, casseroles and stews, cold meats and cured cheeses, mostly.
